Out of Africa

Last Friday we went to visit Out of Africa wildlife park www.outofafricapark.com . Paul's sister Mary had come for a visit and I had won tickets to this place from air1.com !! So, what better thing to do to get out of the heat (well sort of) and enjoy some WILD animals. We headed north of the valley of the sun about 2 hours to Camp Verde, AZ.

A lot of the animals came to Out of Africa after being rescued from "canned" hunting facilities. These animals now get huge places to roam and the predators are fed 3 times a week. We did not watch the predator feed, but we did see some cool things! first we saw the Giant snake show and got to pet an Anaconda and a Reticulated Python. Yep, they let the snakes roam free in a chain link closure wtih us humans just walking amongst them. We made sure to give them the right of way and not touch their heads!

Next we saw some lions, tigers, and bears from our trolley. after lunch we went to the Tiger Splash show. Bascially 3 tigers were in a huge enclosure with a swimming pool and the humans came to play. The tigers acted like ginormous kittens-- chasing balls, running after toys, and pouncing on balls. It was my favorite part of the day!

After the Tiger Splash we then went on Safari. We rode on a bus through the part of the park where the animals roam free. We fed giraffes and camels by hand, saw zebras and their babies, laughed at the ostrich, and saw other hoofed creatures with horns that I don't remember what they are called!
